Cultural Festival Pt.2

So rather than changing the first post, I'm making a second.

Man, the cultural festival is a really REALLY big deal! I made the first post on the first day, before everything was kind of in full swing. Now that I've gone through both days, I can say that it's a REALLY big deal. People were coming in and out of the school all day, and quite a few of them were high school boys (no surprise there).

Each classroom was fully decked out with awesome decorations in a certain theme, but that's not all. Most of these rooms are basically full of games which the students are in charge of running, like carnival games. Some games you can win prizes, others are just really fun. There where chairs outside each room where people would sit down and line up to be allowed next into the room they'd chosen. I had two days, and I was able to go through every classroom. But it is not possible in one day! The students all really did a great job on their presentations, and visitors were able to vote on their favorite. The winner this year had a Ghibli themed room with trivia on environmental conservation, tossing soot sprites into bags, and scooping the garbage (doll furniture) out of the river (inflatable pool) without picking up the marine life (rubber toys)

There is food sold in the courtyard, which the teachers man, and there was also a stamp rally (which are hugely popular in Japan) and presentations by the various clubs. Band club, choir club, and guitar club performed on the stage or in the courtyard. Tea ceremony club had presentations every half hour in the tea house, and the art club was doing cloisonne projects that visitors could do as well. Literature club, calligraphy club, English club, newspaper club, cooking club, photo club, and biology club all had rooms set up with displays or demonstrations. It was all quite impressive! I was able to attend all the clubs I just listed, except band club I only heard them echoing through the halls of the school. There were likely other clubs, as my school has 30 of them (though sports clubs are a big part of that and none of them had anything going on because of a sports meet the week prior), but that was all I had time to see!

There were so many people too, somewhere around 1000 attended according to the teachers. At the end of it all, around 3 on Saturday, guests were ushered out and students and teachers attending the closing ceremony where the wining class was announced. Other awards were distributed as well, and then it was over. Students immediately started taking everything down and by the next week, except for some random rolls of tape and cardboard lying around, you'd have known it had happened.
